He was the main coordinator of the international projects of conservation for the mosaics of the Great Palace of Constantinople and Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, as well as a visiting professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Peter Berzobohaty-Gastl is extremely passionate about the production technique of Late-Antique and Byzantine mosaics, and this book presents the results of his research spanning over more than 30 years.
